 Discriminatory Israeli Policies Demolish Village, Forcibly Displace West Bank Residents

(Jerusalem) - The Israeli government should immediately stop the arbitrary destruction of Palestinian homes and other property in the West Bank and compensate the people it has displaced, Human Rights Watch said today. Israeli authorities destroyed 141 Palestinian homes and other buildings in July 2010, the largest number in any month since at least 2005, and have already carried out dozens of demolitions in August.

"While Israel is demolishing more and more Palestinian homes, it continues to subsidize the Jewish settlements nearby," said Sarah Leah Whitson, Middle East director at Human Rights Watch. "Israel has flouted international law not only by supporting settlements on occupied territory, but also by erasing longstanding Palestinian communities next door."

The Lebanese cabinet on Wednesday tackled the issue of false witnesses in the investigation of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri's assassination and requested Justice Minister Ibrahim Najjar to follow up on the matter.
 
According to Information Minister Tareq Mitri, President Michel Sleiman commended the Resistance's gesture when it placed its capabilities in the hands of the Lebanese army during the Adeisseh clash.
 
The minister said after the Cabinet session that the president also called for following up on the issue of properly equipping the army as indicated in the ministerial statement.

Israeli Air Force Bombs Gaza Tunnels PDF Print E-mail

Palestinian sources reported that Israel carried out airstrikes in Gaza Tuesday, after two occupation soldiers were injured by mortars that exploded near the border fence earlier in the day.
 
Air-to-ground missiles struck several targets in central and southern Gaza, but no injuries were reported.
 
Israeli occupation army Spokesperson's office confirmed that Israeli F16s targeted a smuggling tunnel in the town of Rafah under the border between southern Gaza Strip and Egypt. The tunnel was reportedly destroyed.

Lebanon opened a bank account for donations to help modernize its poorly-equipped army, Defense Minister Elias Murr declared on Saturday, two weeks after a Israeli deadly aggression against Lebanese soldiers. 

"I announce the launching of a fund to support and equip the army," Murr said while attending a military maneuver at the army barracks at Roumieh where he also revealed that Cabinet will discuss a draft law on the army's armament based on a three-year plan.
